Spyware
So what exactly is spyware? Spyware is essentially a type of harmful software program or malware that is installed onto computer systems. Usually spyware is installed without the the person's knowledge or consent. In some cases, it can be installed by an employer, from governments to small offices to monitor the computer and online activities of employees. A popular type of this is called a keylogger. Keyloggers basically record key strokes of the computer user and are saved in a particular file that can be reviewed by the individual or business who installed the spyware.
The word spyware implies that some software program covertly monitors an individuals computer use. However, spywares extned far beyond this. This form of malware can gather numerous types of personal and confidential data, including: web surfing activities, usernames and passwords and also hijack ones internet browser and redirect it to another site. Spyware can also alter computer settings, disable other software programs and cause the loss of internet connectivity.
Adware
Adware, also known as advertising supported software, is any type of software program that would automatically display, download or play any type of ads to an individuals computer once the software is loaded on the computer. Certain types of adware are also spyware.
